Dining tables by material

The material decides almost everything about how a dining table lives with you: how it handles heat and spills, how much attention it needs, and whether it looks better or worse in ten years than it does today.

Ceramic tops are fired mineral slabs bonded to a support. Non-porous, so red wine and oil sit on the surface rather than soaking in, and hot pans do not mark them. Teak root tables are cut from the root mass of the tree, so no two bases are the same. They carry natural voids, colour variation and movement, which is the point of them rather than a flaw. See our teak root tables.

Solid wood and live edge tables keep the natural profile of the plank at the edge. They mark and patinate with use, and can be sanded and refinished, which is something a ceramic top cannot do.
